  • increase your soil’s water holding capacity
  • increase the drought tolerance of your land
  • understand how weeds are indicators for soil imbalances
  • decrease high cost inputs on your farm

Biodynamics is a cost effective method of producing high quality plants, food and fibre with regenerative ecological outcomes.  You will learn how biodynamic preparations contribute to the soil food web creating fertility and balance in your soil.

This 1-day Biodynamics Management and Planning Refresher is suitable for past students who all ready have an understanding of biodynamics and would like to further their knowledge on the biodynamics calendar and learning objectives below.

What you will learn

  • Climate risk management:
    • Reading the rhythms and pulses of the planetary cycles
    • Presentation of the Moon cycles and their significance: Waxing/Waning Moon, Ascending/ Descending Moon, Perigee/Apogee Moon, Moon Nodes, Moon opposition Saturn
  • Production Management
    • Managing your natural resources - soil, humus, water, soil biodiversity, pasture grasses and trees
    • Managing weeds - getting this message
    • Use of peppering and weed teas
    • Animal health issues

Meet your biodynamic educators

John PriestleyJohn Priestley: A third generation ecological farmer. John has been evolving his practice and knowledge of biodynamics for over 50 years. With his wife Dorothy he grows award winning citrus and beef cattle at Paterson in the NSW Hunter Valley. He is a wealth of practical knowledge with a keen eye for the small observations that can make a difference to farming.

Hamish McKay squareHamish Mackay: Hamish has been working with biodynamics for 35 years and travels Australia presenting introductory biodynamic workshops and consulting with growers to help them adopt biodynamics as a cost effective way of producing high quality food and fibre whilst improving our environment. He is renowned for his clear and effective way of demystifying biodynamics, making it accessible to the practical farmer.

Inclusions

Other Learning Experiences

Our education program offers a wide range of learning experiences including:

Field Days Read More...

Offered as both an annual event and by arrangement for private groups, Fields Days provide the public with an opportunity to learn about the research, regenerative work and biological farming methods currently in place on the property. At each Field Day we showcase different aspects of our farming and land restoration ventures. For instance, you may be participating in a guided tour of our landscape rehabilitation projects, seeing how 12,000 free range chickens live, or getting your hands dirty learning to make compost, plant trees or grow food.

School Tours Read More...

By integrating the classroom curriculum into the farming environment, school tours increase the student’s learning on animal husbandry, farming methods, environmental issues and land care.

Creek Tours Read More...

Walking Mulloon Creek with a guide is the best way to learn about the principles of Natural Sequence Farming and how it repairs our waterways, restores the riparian zones, and hydrates the landscape.

Courses Read More...

Working on the principle “I hear and I forget. I see and I remember. I do and I understand.” Courses are generally designed to be hands-on and provide participants with practical skills and development that can be put into action when they return home.

Intern Program Read More...

Our internship provides keen bean, go-getters with an opportunity to exchange their time and labour for learning. Interns become part of our farming family during their internship working beside the managers of our different enterprises and gaining valuable hands-on experience, whilst learning about biological farming practices and land regeneration.
