Mulloon Creek Natural Farms
Every musician who has played in The Barn, comments on how great the acoustics are; it’s the combination of the packed earth floor, good insulation and perfect balance of tin and timber that lines the ceiling and walls. Add that to the atmosphere of being out under the wide starry skies in the fresh country air and you have the makings of a special night.
We only hold a few concerts each year - some have been fundraisers and some just for fun. Sometimes they are fully catered, and sometimes we open the grounds early for you to BYO a picnic, or BBQ on our large open grill. The Barn adds an extra something to every performance and whatever the genre, people of all ages have a great time.
Make sure you are on our mailing list so that you hear about our next concert.
Kevin and Dustin Welch Concert
KEVIN AND DUSTIN WELCH (USA)
Kevin is among a handful of truly great American songwriters, regardless of genre.
He has been referred to as a ‘songwriters songwriter’ an expressive singer and a great guitarist. His songs have been recorded by a variety of artists including Roger Miller, Trisha Yearwood, Jimmy LaFave, The Highwaymen, Tracy Grammer, Linda Ronstadt and the list goes on. That said, no one does a Kevin Welch song like he does.
He casts a spell over his audience with his lyrics, sincerity, musicianship and when the night is over you know you have experienced something special.
Kevin is among a handful of truly great American songwriters. He was Americana before they had a name for it and few performers can fill a room with their presence as well as this thoughtful Okie. So it’s no surprise that his son Dustin possesses a similar talent. Growing up in Nashville, surrounded by writers, singers, pickers, and artists of all kinds he was off to a good start. He formed his first kid band with the Welch’s neighbour, Cary Ann Hearst, who grew up and became half of the acclaimed Shovels and Rope. His next kid band was with other Music Row offspring including Justin Townes Earle and Cory Younts (who now plays with Old Crow Medicine Show as well as with Jack White). Soon after, Dustin joined the West Coast Celtic punk rock band Scotch Greens playing banjo, and toured all over the world, before settling in Austin to start his solo career.
Writing for Music Connection, journalist Dan Kimpel said:
In the hands of Dustin Welch a banjo possesses the ferocious firepower to confront abrasive electric guitars and hard-hitting staccato snares. “It can do a lot more than the three-finger bluegrass type stuff,” says Welch. A consummate slide player as well, and an intensely literate songwriter, his first two solo records, Whisky Priest and Tijuana Bible put him into the upper realm of Austin rockers.
Now the Welch boys have joined forces, and this collaboration, the result of years of hard work and dreams, is about to fill the beautiful Mulloon valley.
Park open from 6pm if you’d like to bring a picnic dinner.
